Hey Everybody I want to tell you thanks for all the support I get from you.  Listening to my music, cruising through my site and listening to the tunes.  I really appreciate your time and effort. Keeping it real I will be adding new blogs every two weeks or so.

I want to share my thoughts for this fabulous year that is unfolding.  First it’s all about health.  Which includes positive thinking, exercise, good nutrition, and lots of love.

Next for me it’s the music that brings peace to my soul and gets me high knowing that I’m connecting to all of you through my lyrics and melodies. The vibrational energy that I am feeling creating my music has me so excited about the new material that I am getting ready to share with all of you.   My lyrics seem to be flowing  to me in a vast variety of genres, Country Rock, Spiritual, Strong Melodic Rock, New Age, Pop and Ballads.  Some of the influences are 2012, the energy shift, America, missing children, love, life and happiness.

Music appears to be processed in the right hemisphere of the brain. The way we experience music also affects our nervous system.

There are different neurons that respond according to what kind of music is playing. Music can effect hormones, encourage the production of cortisol, testosterone, and oxytocin. Music can even trigger a release of endorphins.

Beyond the biology and the actual responses of your body, there are definite responses of the mind as well. You’re aware of how you feel when you listen to music, but how do you know that it’s actually having any sort of effect on you? There is scientific evidence of the way it can affect your mind! It’s clearly more than just a suspicion — it’s fact!

The most famous experiment related to this is probably the one that was performed at the University of California at Irvine. College students were assigned to three different groups. The first group listened to Mozart’s sonata for Two Pianos in D Major. The second group listened to a relaxation tape. The third group listened to nothing at all.

After listening, they took a Stanford-Beinet reasoning test. The results were clear — those who had listened to Mozart had improved scores!

Many musical therapy experts recommend making music a part of your daily life, because its effects can improve with time. There is evidence that, over time, your language skills, creativity, happiness, and more, can improve with regular musical therapy.

The evidence is also stacked up strongly in favor of music’s healing power! A positive link has been found for those suffering from things like autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Tourette’s.

There are neuroscientists who are working to discover exactly why music has healing powers. After all, it’s pretty amazing that it can stimulate certain areas of the brain, speed healing, and decrease anxiety and increase optimism.

There are different components to music that can have an effect. Pitch, harmony, frequency, melody, and rhythm all effect the brain in different ways. We know that some of the brain locations are involved in helping to heal and soothe the body as well.

The brain can be taught and stimulated to perform better — and it seems that music is the perfect vehicle to do that.

However, there is science behind music and its healing power and Dr. Mike Miller of the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, set out to study this.

He used high-tech imaging to measure blood vessel size while listening to music. What he found was that the lining of the blood vessel relaxed and opened up. It also produced chemicals that help protect the heart.

Do you sometime ask yourself “How to Write Catchy Songs?” There will be a time when you will be writing your own songs and singing them in front of the audience. There is such a great feeling of fulfillment in doing so. Maybe you’ve written some original tunes, but you’d like to produce something more catchy and have a good chance of selling it big!

Here are some tips you can use to write catchier songs, the one that you can call your own:

Songs That Are About “Me”

One popular style of writing songs is doing it with a universal appeal. Many musicians write about situations and emotions they have experienced personally and that many other people have experienced too. You will most definitely have a potential hit song if people can take your song and apply it to their own lives.

Some of the common situations that many of us experienced that can be put into songs are love, money, love problems, adventures in live and others.

An important tips related to this is don’t write about things that you have no experience with. This will make your music genuine.

Memorable and Catchy Lyrics

Some of the most popular songs in history have had relatively simple lyrics. Being a big fan of The Beatles, I will put all their songs as an example here. The key is to use words and phrases most people understand and can relate to.

Do not use, or at least avoid words and phrases that are trendy that will eventually go out of style. You want your songs to be a classic and timeless so choosing lyrics that will go out of place in a few years time is not a good idea.

Catchy Music

Catchy is almost synonymous with poppy. If you turn on your radio, you’ll immediately notice those good sounding, memorable music with noticeable bass like, catchy drum beat or unique guitar riffs. Catchy music can take a song from good to great.

You must understand the basic chord progression and rhythms in order for you to write catchy music. If you’re starting from scratch, consider using sound mixing software or self-study guides to help you learn.

Memorable and Singable Choruses

The Chorus is what I consider as the heart of the song. Almost everybody instantly remembers a catchy chorus first before the verses or even before the title of the song itself. You need to write something so catchy that people will remember it.

A great thing to take note when writing catchy chorus is to make it universal, that is, everyone who sings it feels like the song is about him. Don’t use too much profanity, or people will not be singing it on public.

Just like in any field of study, and most specially in music, repetition is a good technique. Repetition makes songs stick in people’s minds, but it can be overdone. Usually chorus are repeated several times, this is good and this is normal. Also, make sure that the song will be interesting by making the other verses different enough.

Do not be discourage if sometimes nothing comes out when you write songs. Songwriting can be difficult. Just don’t stop, don’t give up and keep writing down your ideas for a song and always listen to good music for ideas and inspiration. Keep dong this regularly and soon you’ll have a great new song that people will love to sing along with.

Singing With A Microphone

Microphones (mics for short; pronounced like the name Mike) can be on a stand, hand held, hanging from the ceiling above the stage, placed on the floor, or hooked onto your clothes or body. Learning how to sing with a microphone can take a little practice. It’s a good idea to practice singing with the microphone without the instruments playing. That way you can hear the difference in sound when you hold the microphone too close or too far. Here is a list of types of microphones that you might sing with.

Singing With A Stationary Microphone:

If your mic is on a stand, you can move around to adjust the sound. You should check out the sound before the concert. The height of most microphone stands can be easily adjusted. Look at the middle of the stand, and you’ll probably see a ring that you can twist to adjust the height. If you have to turn on the microphone, practice walking out to stand and finding the button, so you’ll feel confident that you can turn it on if your hands are shaking.

Singing With A Hand-Held Microphone:

If you’re using a hand held mic, hold it far enough away from your mouth that you don’t touch it with your lips but close enough that the sound of your voice is captured clearly by the microphone. If you move around a lot during your performance you’ll have to be a little careful that you don’t get caught up in the microphone cable.

Singing With A Body Microphone:

You’ve probably seen body microphones on television. A microphone cord goes through your clothing, and a small box is clipped under your clothes or to your belt. If you don’t get a chance to use one before the show, just visualize the sensation of having a box attached to you, so you won’t be too put off when you feel something hanging from your back while you’re singing.

Using  Floor Level Microphones:

If the microphones are on the floor, you’ll just have to remember to tread more lightly as the audience is going to hear the sound of your walking across the stage.

No one becomes a celebrated songwriter overnight. Even musical geniuses put in a lot of hard work before they have come up with their own masterpieces. Here are some tips for songwriting that you can use to enhance your songwriting skills.

Tip 1: Know how you feel. A song is a reflection of the soul and emotion. If you will write without feeling anything at all, you will not be able to come up with a song worthy of people’s attention.

You have to draw inspiration from what you feel and from what you are. Simply put, you should also know what genre you should write about. Is it a rock song? Do you like happy novelty songs or sentimental love songs? Once you have identified your personality, you will also be able to identify what songs to write. Always remember that one cannot be a jack of all trades.

Tip 2: Focus on the lyrics. Other than the melody, words mean a lot in a song. You can have the greatest song arrangement but if your lyrics do not really voice out what it is supposed to, your audience will not love your song.

Do not use words that are very deep because people who will listen to your song want simple yet profound lyrics. Make it easy to understand.

Tip 3: Arrange the vocal melody. The sound and melody of the song is what your listeners will remember. This includes opening notes and closing notes in a song. Remember that the rise and fall of your melody should also match the words. If the words are of a person who got hurt and is angry, you may want to consider a rising tone.

There are other tips for songwriting but the best tip of all is to practice, practice, practice and write, write, and write more songs until you fell really comfortable with it.

In my years of studying and researching the human psyche, one question continued to arise: Why do so many people read books about success, yet very few seem to take action and realize the success they seek?

I concluded that in order to live the life you envision for yourself, both the mind and body need to be stimulated and engaged.

Music can be an effective way to empower the mind, energize the body, and drive you toward achieving your goals.

Psychological studies have shown that the brain absorbs new information 85 percent faster through the repetitious use of music or voice recordings.

Remember Schoolhouse Rock, the animated educational short films during Saturday morning children’s programming? That’s a perfect example of blending learning with music. Imagine how many people learned their multiplication tables thanks to Schoolhouse Rock!

• Whereas music with a strong beat can sharpen concentration, music with a slower tempo can lower the heart rate and promote a calm, meditative state.

• Music can lower blood pressure (which can also reduce the risk of stroke and other health problems), boost immunity, ease muscle tension, and more.

• Music can also impact a person’s state of mind, helping to alleviate depression and anxiety and increase creativity and optimism

Listen to some New Age music and watch your stress level decrease almost instantly—it’s like a soothing bath without the water! And we all know that stress is one of the biggest health hazards to brain and body alike.

Music has been used throughout history to inspire great leaders, athletes, and creators.

• The ancient Greek soldiers used powerful motivating music when preparing for a battle.
• Surgeons often play classical music in the operating room to help them focus on the procedure they’re performing.
• Music elicits emotions in a way that speech cannot express.

Think of how you feel when you hear the national anthem before a sporting event.

The emotional effect of music is why couples have favorite songs and movies have soundtracks.

Who doesn’t feel enlivened when they hear the theme to Rocky?

Speaking of theme music, I believe everyone should have their own theme song.

When you feel you need that extra lift, just hum it in your head, whistle the tune or play the song on your iPod.

• Music can arouse your body with energy and push you to go that extra mile just when it seems you’ve run out of gas, taking you from fatigue to empowerment.

• Music can erase any self-imposed doubts, and keep you going for that extra mile.

What’s more, it can add fun to any activity.

Next time you go to a car wash, blast your stereo and play the song “Car Wash.” See what kind of reactions you get!

And believe it or not, music can have lasting benefits even after you’ve stopped listening, as evidenced by changes in brainwave activity.

• It can enrich lives, and its memory can last a lifetime.

• Music can bring happiness to the sad and strength to the weak.

• Sing someone a song, and change a life; it won’t cost you a cent.

The bottom line is, music can change your attitude and take you from zero to hero.

With so many benefits and such profound physical effects, it’s no surprise that so many are seeing music as an important tool to help the body in staying (or becoming) healthy.

Lena Horne, the ground-breaking singer, actress and civil rights activist who, in 1942, became the first African-American performer to be put under contract by a major studio, died on Sunday, May 9, at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York.  She was 92. According to the New York Times, Horne’s death was announced by her son-in-law, Kevin Buckley.

Her movie career spanned nearly six decades and included some well-regarded films, like Stormy Weather (1943), Ziegfeld Follies (1946), and Meet Me in Las Vegas (1956).  However, Horne was best known for her singing. Her music highpoints include blockbuster collaborations with Tony Bennett, Grammy-winning recordings of her Vegas nightclub act (1981′s The Lady and Her Music, Live on Broadway, and 1995′s An Evening With Lena Horne), and her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway musical, Calypso.

By the time Lena was 16,  she had a regular singing gig at Manhattan’s Cotton Club.  With a  dramatic flourish her romantic renditions of jazz standards led her to appearances on TV variety shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Dean Martin Show.  Later in life she starred on TV in recurring roles on The Muppet Show and The Cosby Show.

She was an advocate for civil rights and an early pioneer in the movement for equality.   She also fought with first lady Eleanor Roosevelt to pass anti-lynching laws.  Lena was a powerful force in breaking down racial barriers in Hollywood and beyond.

Lena Horne is survived by her daughter, Gail Lumet Buckley.  Her husband and son both died in 1971, the latter of kidney failure.
